Soccer complex adds walkways, seating

Improvements to the East Lansing Soccer Complex, 3001 Abbott Road, continue to develop with the help of a community-based fundraising drive.

The improvements are the last sector of a three-phrase endeavor providing new amenities to the facility, including walkways, fences, scoreboards and bleachers. More than $250,000 of the $375,000 goal was collected during phases one and two of the drive for the complex, which opened in the late '90s.

Gretchen Couraud,co-chair for the fund-raising campaign, said the last phase is dedicated to making the building safer and more convenient for the players and spectators.

The next fundraiser will be held Nov. 13 at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbott Road. Past donors include Meijer, the Student Book Store, and community members.

The money raised will go toward construction of restrooms, a concession area, coaches rooms and on-site storage.
