Team USA still perfect after edging Lithuania

The USA Junior World Championship Team is still dominating the 2003 FIBA Men's Junior World Championships.

MSU sophomore center Paul Davis and sophomore guard Maurice Ager continued their undefeated exposure to international basketball on Tuesday with a slim 87-84 victory over Lithuania.

Davis scored 13 in the evenly-matched game, his most weighty basket a score with just under seven minutes remaining to give Team USA (5-0) a 71-68 lead. Three consecutive 3-pointers by Illinois' Dee Brown lifted the Americans to the win after a last-moment 3-point attempt to tie fell short for the Lithuanians.

Ager was held scoreless, missing all 6 field goal attempts in 18 minutes of play.

Team USA will play Australia (4-1) in quarterfinal action on Wednesday.

On Monday, a consistent offensive performance from both Davis and Ager helped Team USA handily beat Puerto Rico 106-72.

Davis and Ager combined for 28 points and 14 rebounds. Davis tied the team-high in rebounding with 9 and Ager scored 15 in 18 minutes of play.

Fouch sits in second at Mich. Women's Open

After two days at the 2003 Michigan Women's Open, senior golfer Allison Fouch sits in second place with a two-round one-under finish on Tuesday.

She trails leader Breanne Hall, who finished her second round at two-under par.

After leading the pack Monday, former Spartan Stacy Snider dropped to third place. She's currently at even for the tourament.

Sophomore Christy Jonkhoff sits in 43rd place and senior Lauren Youngdahl is in 47th.

The Michigan Women's Open Championship is being held at the Crystal Mountain Resort in Thompsonville, Mich. and runs through Wednesday.

Lubahn on leaderboard at New Jersey tourney

After day one of the 2003 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship, MSU senior golfer Casey Lubahn is tied for 11th with a 71. The tournament is being held at the Blue Heron Pines Golf Club in Galloway, N.J.

Lubahn advanced to the quarterfinals in 2002 and became an automatic qualifier into this year's championship.

Jeff Overton leads stroke play after shooting a seven-under 64 on Monday.

Second-round action at the championship was held Tuesday and the 64 lowest scores advance to Wednesday's match play. The second and third rounds of match play are scheduled for Thursday and quarter and semifinal's are set for Friday. The finals are set to be played on Saturday.
