Crime Stoppers helps solve student assault

A case of three MSU students who were assaulted at gunpoint hit the airwaves Wednesday night to aid the search for a suspect.

Last night, Crime Stoppers of Mid-Michigan announced the Lansing Police Department is looking for 21-year-old Edward Griffith, who's believed to have affiliations in Lansing and Detroit, but is expected to be in the Lansing area.

The assault occurred Feb. 19 at Dover's Crossing apartments in Lansing.

"We feel pretty confident we solved this crime against these students," Lansing police Lt. Bruce Ferguson said.

In December, after Crime Stoppers aired a case involving someone fondling women on MSU's campus, a viewer turned in a name and other details to police. MSU police officials coordinated a photo lineup and a victim was able to pick out the suspect.

In 2002, Crime Stoppers arrested 103 out of 114 felony fugitives whose cases aired and recovered approximately $42,000 worth of stolen property and drugs.

Anybody with information can contact Crime Stoppers of Mid-Michigan at (517)483-STOP.
