I'm writing this letter to Chris Seljeskog and The State News because I agree with his letter about walking on the right ("Right side of hall is the way to travel," SN 2/18), and to kindly ask the readers to not just apply that rule to walking through the halls, but on the sidewalks outside as well.
As a regular biker, a common danger and annoyance I see is people walking in the middle of the sidewalk. It's hard enough as it is to bike safely with snow around without having to dodge people like pylons in a driving course.
It's a relatively small problem, but it often forces bikers such as myself to either come extremely close to the walker while passing or to skid and wipe out on the street or in a snow bank.
When I mentally abide by this rule, and the others around me are doing the same, harmful accidents for both the biker and the pedestrian are far less likely.
Once again, thank you for your letter.
