NAISO convention to gather future leaders

The North American Indian Student Organizational presents its first Gathering of our Future Leaders conference today and Saturday at the Union.

Native and nonnative students from across Michigan are invited to attend the free conference.

The conference begins on Friday at 6 p.m. with a welcome reception in the Multicultural Center in the basement of the Union.

At 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, political activist and renowned Native American film star Wes Studi will speak in Parlor Rooms B and C of the Union.

Studi has appeared in films such as "The Last of the Mohicans" and "Mystery Men."

Art historian wins research fellowship

MSU art historian Stuart Lingo won a postdoctoral fellowship from the Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies at Villa I Tatti in Florence, Italy.

About 12 scholars are nominated for this competitive fellowship and chosen by an international selection committee.

Lingo also will be able to conduct independent research at libraries and collections in Italy.
