ASMSU fires Web site developer

The ASMSU director of technology has been fired in the middle of a redesign of the organization's Web site.

Officials for MSU's undergraduate student government said David Wilson was let go because he failed to show up for work at the beginning of the semester.

Wilson was hired as the director of technology in October. One of his main duties was to revamp the ASMSU Web site.

Association Director James Perra said class conflicts were probably the cause for Wilson not returning to work after winter break.

"When David did work he did a really good job," Perra said, adding Wilson was quick at writing computer code.

Wilson could not be reached for comment.

Vikas Menon, ASMSU director of human resources, declined to comment.

But Perra said a new director would probably not be hired before the end of the year.

"It has been so long since we've had a director of technology that would devote the amount of time needed," he said.

ASMSU's new Web site project will now be led by studio art sophomore Adam Olson.

"It is being designed to function as an information service for MSU students and ASMSU," Olson said. "It will look rather professional, being easily accessible and frequently updated."

Cost for updating the Web site will come out of the executive budget and will be more cost-effective than using an outside corporation, Perra said.

Users will not be able to view the new Web site for another three weeks, when ASMSU election information will be added.

All information will be placed on the new Web site in March, Perra said.
