Road work planned

Those who commute from suburban communities to downtown Detroit will appreciate that about $400 million was granted to Wayne, Oakland, Macomb and St. Clair counties for state road and bridge repair.

The Michigan Department of Transportation plans to rehabilitate 1,490 miles of pavement statewide and 185 bridges in 2003. The statewide project will total $1.2 billion.

The plans for 2003 mark the sixth consecutive year that more than $1 billion has been consumed by road and bridge repair.

Of key interest in the metro Detroit area:

  • More than four miles of southbound Interstate 75 will be reconstructed between Detroit and Southgate.

  • More than six miles of eastbound Interstate 94 will be reconstructed and resurfaced from Harper Woods to Harrison Township.

  • More than two miles of Telegraph Road will be resurfaced and reconstructed in Dearborn.
