Ceremony planned at fire station

The East Lansing community will participate in a Sept. 11 terrorist attack remembrance ceremony at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at the East Lansing Fire Station No. 1, 1700 Abbott Road.

East Lansing police chaplains Ron Frederick and Greg Kett will make an invocation and remarks will be made by City Manager Ted Staton, police Chief Louis Muhn and fire Chief Randy Talifarro. The ceremony will also feature the playing of “Taps,” ringing of the station bells and raising of the American flag.

There also will be a small memorial area for participants to light a candle in memory of those who perished.

A reception will be held after the ceremony and the memorial will be in place all day.

“It’s an opportunity for all of us to reflect on the tragedy and be thankful for our friends and family,” Mayor Pro Tem Sam Singh said.
