How low the Spartans have sunk in their scheduling. No wonder the Big Ten lacks respect in the eyes of the national sporting press.
Powerful MSU plays a nonconference schedule featuring such football powerhouses as Eastern Michigan University and the Rice Owls.
Is this a joke? I didnt even know Rice had a football team.
And as for Eastern - its team cant even draw a thousand fans to its home games. Eastern has no business even fielding a team in NCAA Division I.
Its basically just an overgrown community college, or one could say, the K-Mart of colleges.
So, the Spartans beat up on hapless opponents like EMU.
Thats like Mike Tyson boxing Woody Allen. Its no great accomplishment - nothing to brag about.
If the Spartans seek national respect, they had better start playing some real football teams in their nonconference schedule. Play Florida, Texas, or Tennessee. Earn the respect you crave.
Say what you will about that other Michigan team in the Big Ten, but at least it has the guts to play one tough nonconference game against Washington.
That is a challenge worthy of respect.
