• A male student reported a fire at the Chemistry Building about 10 a.m. Monday, Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.The student was working on an experiment and accidentally caused a bottle of hexane to catch fire, which he extinguished, McGlothian-Taylor said.The East Lansing Fire Department responded and determined there was no fire or contamination threat from the burning the hexane, McGlothian-Taylor said.• A 42-year-old Grand Blanc man reported a cracked windshield on a Caterpillar excavator Monday, McGlothian-Taylor said.A unknown person threw a rock at the excavator’s windshield, McGlothian-Taylor said. It was parked at a construction site next to the Cyclotron.The act occurred between 3:30 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. Monday, McGlothian-Taylor said.Damage is estimated at $300. • A male student reported his Pioneer CD player stolen from his 1997 Dodge Stratus on Tuesday, McGlothian-Taylor said.The car was parked in the 1500 block of Spartan Village when the theft occurred between 1 a.m. and 9 a.m. Tuesday, McGlothian-Taylor said.The male student said the car was locked when he left, but when he returned to his vehicle the driver’s side door was unlocked.The CD player is valued at $300.
