A female student reported that her car was on fire in a parking lot near the Veterinary Medical Center, Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said. She was driving her 1995 Ford near the lot when she smelled something funny, McGlothian-Taylor said. After stopping her car, she discovered smoke coming from under the hood. Apparently the battery sparked a fire, McGlothian-Taylor said.Two passers-by helped her extinguish the fire until the fire department could arrive to finish the job. Her car was towed away upon request with an estimated $2,000 in damage, McGlothian-Taylor said.
