Police briefs 07/03/02

A male parking employee reported being assaulted near Phillips Hall on Monday, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.The employee was confronting an individual with outstanding parking tickets, who police said verbally threatened and pushed him. Police are investigating the incident.• A man reported a fan stolen from Wonders Hall on Monday, McGlothian-Taylor said.The fan, valued at $75 was left unattended near the elevator. Police have no suspects.• A male employee reported a fire near the Cyclotron on Monday, McGlothian-Taylor said.A construction worker using a torch accidentally set fire to a nearby wall and then proceeded to put the fire out with a hose. The East Lansing Fire Department responded. There were no damages or injuries.• A male student reported a backpack stolen from his car Monday, McGlothian-Taylor said. The student left the backpack, valued at $32, in his car while it was parked near Phillips Hall with its windows rolled down. Police have no suspects.
