The East Lansing Fire Department and MSU police responded to an acid spill at the Engineering Building about 5 p.m. Thursday, said Leo Allaire, a fire department spokesman. A fume hood was used to ventilate the gas caused by the acid on the second floor of the building. There were no injuries.Allaire said a student was using chemicals for a project. An MSU hazardous waste team did testing to make sure none of the gas was released and disposed of the waste. Allaire said only about 2 milliliters of acid was spilled, which is not dangerous. We have these occasionally, Allaire said. Sometimes students are mixing up concoctions and dont know what theyre doing. A male student reported a French horn stolen from the Music Practice Building on Thursday, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said. The student left the instrument, worth $2,000, unattended.
