Take a peek behind the curtain and test drive the NEW StateNews.com today!

SN Oscar coverage disrespects blacks

As a black person in America, I am saddened by your coverage of the Oscars.

The State News’ coverage of the Halle Berry, Denzel Washington and Sidney Poitier historic victories was nonexistent the day after the ceremony.

This is why black people in American hate the media. It doesn’t give us any positive press when we work hard for any historic achievements.

If any these people had a brush with the law, it would have been the front-page centerpiece of The State News.

Incidents like this are a prime example of why racism still exists today. Some readers might say why I am using the word racism and I answer that by saying, “Don’t you think if a white actor would have won either of those awards it would have received some mention in The State News?”

The State News should not have received a tax increase and should be shut down.

Editor’s note: Because of newspaper deadlines, The State News did not publish the Oscar winners for best picture, leading actor and leading actress in Monday’s edition. On Tuesday, The State News ran the story “Minority groups say diversity needs to extend beyond Oscars,” which reported several national minority groups’ reaction to Halle Berry’s and Denzel Washington’s historic wins.
