A fire at Delta Packaging International Inc., 3463 Millwood Drive in Delta Township, caused an estimated $150,000 in damage Tuesday night, township fire Chief Victor Hilbert said.Hilbert said it’s unsure how the fire started, but it destroyed at least half of the building. Firefighters weren’t able to enter the building because of fear of it collapsing, but were able to get the fire under control in about 30 minutes.Firefighters spent hours and about 6,000 gallons of water extinguishing the fire. Another small outbreak Wednesday morning sent firefighters back to put out a small fire on the building’s south side.Delta Packaging International manufactures wood and metal containers.• A male student reported that one of Illinois’ men’s basketball players assaulted him Tuesday at Breslin Center, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said. The student said the player hit him with a sign while running through the tunnel at the beginning of the game between the Illini and Spartans.The player told police he put his hands up to avoid the low-hanging sign from hitting his face, and didn’t realize he had struck anyone. No further investigation is planned.Shannon Murphy
