The former site of Pro Bowl East has been vacant since August.
But the spot at 2757 E. Grand River Ave. has started moving again as the bowling alleys replacement, a new Farmer Jack, has begun construction.
The new grocery store will renovate the site, which did not meet building ordinances.
The old site was nonconformant because it didnt have any green space, said Mark Kieselbach, Meridian Township director of community planning and development.
The grocery store chain maintains two stores in the Lansing area but will give students on the east side of campus another place to shop.
For Meridian Township, one of the main advantages is what the store does not do, he said.
Its a reuse of a site, he said. We dont have a vacant site being developed and thats one of the pluses.
