ASMSUs Student Assembly applauded its new director and assistant director of Human Resources after they were appointed to the positions last week.
Following a three-week search, Kim Ross and Mary Schneider were chosen as the undergraduate student governments human resource leaders.
After serving one semester as assistant director of Human Resources, Ross has ascended to director, replacing former director Natalie Zien.
I thought the position would be appropriate for me because I was assistant director, and it would be easier to implement the programs I have been working on, Ross said.
The director earns $1,170 per semester to publicize ASMSU job opportunities and assist with the organizations hiring process.
Ross also is working on additional projects including an orientation program for ASMSUs staff members and a sexual harassment training program for all ASMSU members.
Its never been done in the past and its a good thing to do because theres a lot of social mixing with professional mixing, Ross said. Its good to know where the line is drawn.
The international relations senior said she is proud to be a part of an organization that aids students through issues concerning the Board of Trustees and tuition increases.
I love (ASMSU), she said. Its been an awesome experience.
Schneider, who will be working with Ross as assistant director of Human Resources, said she also has enjoyed working with ASMSU members.
Schneider decided to step down from the executive secretary position for her second semester at ASMSU.
Its good to get more involved, the theater senior said.
I think its very important to create diversity and establish a good government.
The assistant director is required to work about eight hours a week, and is paid $720 per semester to help with the directors responsibilities.
Im looking forward to sharing an office with the people I work with, Schneider said.
I think it will be a very interesting learning experience.
A committee oversaw the applicants interviews and hiring process to monitor the applicants diversity views and qualifications.
Thirteen people applied for the positions.
Jonathan Rosenthal, director of community affairs, said he is confident Ross and Schneider will improve the community because they have goals.
Other student leaders will be sought out and attracted by our human resource leaders, Rosenthal said.
And with that, it will start improving our university as a whole, and our community as well.
