Despite being one All-American short, the No. 20 MSU wrestling team managed to get its revenge on the intrastate rival No. 18 Central Michigan in its season opener.
All-American junior Nik Fekete (197 pounds) was unable to wrestle due to an injury received at the MSU Open.
The Spartans began the night with early losses in the first two weight classes.
Sophomore Ryan LAmoreaux (133 pound class) caught his first loss of the season in the opening match, falling 12-6 to Centrals Jordan Webster, a returning national qualifier.
That loss was followed by another Spartan loss. Centrals Jason Mester took down freshman Eric Keith 14-7 in the 141 weight class.
Junior Karl Nadolsky posted the first win for the Spartans, defeating Ty Morgan 9-7 (149 weight class).
The meet came down to All-American senior Chris Williams for the victory.
Facing the same opponent he lost to at the MSU Open, Jason Borelli, Williams landed the 5-2 win and captured a 18-16 team victory over Central.
