MSU Chess Club: Chess, 7:30 p.m. Monday, A517 Wells Hall. Everybody welcome, free. Unrated and rated games available. Please bring sets and clocks.

Phoenix Rising Drum Circle: Come Drum And Dance With Us, 8 p.m. Friday, Purdue room in the Union. Come make rhythms with drums and other percussion instruments in a group setting. No experience is required. Some rattles and drums will be available for use, but bring an instrument of your own if you have one. School of Music: Concert, 7:30 p.m. Monday, Music Auditorium. This free concert features “Musique 21” - the School of Music’s contemporary music ensemble composed of faculty and students. The ensemble is comprised of mixed instrumentation devoted to the performance of new and contemporary works.

Abrams Planetarium: Season of Light, 8 p.m. Friday, Abrams Planetarium. “Season of Light” explores the customs we associate with this special time of the year. The idea of a “Christmas Star” is briefly examined. National Public Radio’s Noah Adams narrates. “Season of Light” will be presented from Nov. 23 through Sunday, Dec. 23. Undergraduate Philosophy Club: Discussion with Professor Bill Lawson, 5-6 p.m. Nov. 28, 530 South Kedzie Hall. The topic is “The Good Racist.” All undergraduates are welcome.

Asian Studies Center: Asian Studies Center Colloquium “Ethnicity and the Thai and Vietnamese Nations,” 4 p.m. Friday, 471 MSU-Detroit College of Law Building. Speakers will be Charles Keyes, president of the Association of Asian Student and professor of anthropology and international studies at the University of Washington. The lecture examines the relationship between the construction of national communities and the generation of ethnic differences within states as well as the relationship between nations and Diasporas in Thailand and Vietnam.

Career Services & Placement: Recruiting Trends 2002: Hiring and the College Labor Market, 4:30 p.m. Dec. 3, Clara Bell Smith Student-Athlete Academic Center Auditorium. Phil Gardner of the Collegiate Employment Research Institute will present the national Recruiting Trends 2002 report highlighting the recruiting and college employment outlook including a question and answer session on today’s job market.

Films

Spanish Club: Romance Language Film Series, 5:30 p.m. Friday, 206 Old Horticulture Building. This week’s film is “Coup de Torchon.” Bernard Tavernier directed this classic film about a French policeman in Africa who takes the law into his own hands.
