Police briefs 11/19/01

Four male students were transported to Lansing’s Sparrow Hospital on Saturday after ingesting a potentially fatal hallucinogenic substance, MSU police Sgt. Keith McDaniel said. Police arrived to a room in Akers Hall about 12:38 a.m. and found the men incapacitated after using “jimsonweed.” Two were violent and had to be wrestled to the ground. One bit an officer and will likely be charged with assault.Three of the students are in the hospital in stable condition. One student was released. Police are investigating.• A 51-year-old man and his 18-year-old son were hit by a car Friday afternoon, McDaniel said. The men were walking in the pedestrian crosswalk near IM Sports-Circle about 2:15 p.m. when they were struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound.The man sustained several facial fractures and head and back injuries. The son, who may be a student, sustained a dislocated shoulder and possible head injuries. Neither has been released from the hospital. Police are investigating.• A male student driving near West Circle Drive and Abbott Road Entrance was assaulted, McDaniel said. Four males stepped in front of his vehicle when he was driving Friday about 1 a.m., and the student yelled at them to move. One of the men approached the car and punched the student. The student received some bruises on his face. Police have no suspects.• A necklace valued at $450 was taken from a room in the Kellogg Center, McDaniel said. A nonstudent female staying in the room reported the jewelry was taken between 7 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. Police have no suspects.
