Lonestar plays Breslin tonight

Country act Lonestar will perform at Breslin Center tonight. East Lansing falls about half-way through its “I’m Already There” tour, which runs until early December.

Its hit single, “I’m Already There” has been on the Billboard country music charts for 17 weeks, having enjoyed a stint as No. 1.

Its sophomore effort, “Amazed,” pushed the band into the country music spotlight.

“Everything changed with ‘Amazed,’” vocalist Richie McDonald said. “We went from playing in front of 1,000 people to playing in front of 10,000 people.

“It brought us a lot of new fans.”

Lonestar was nominated for two Grammys and for Single of the Year, Vocal Group of the Year and was nominated for lead singer Richie McDonald for Song of the Year from the Country Music Association.

Opening for the band are Jamie O’Neal and Blake Shelton.

Shelton’s recent success includes the “Top New Female Vocalist” award from the Academy of Country Music Awards.

“This is what I’ve always wanted,” she said. “I love the faithfulness of the country fans.”

Shelton said his music is real-life material.

“It’s heavy stuff, but it’s out there,” he said. “It ain’t all about sunshine and flowers.”

The show is at 8 p.m. Tickets are $33.50 and $39.50 and are available through the Breslin Center Box Office. MSU faculty, staff and students receive a discount on selected seats.
