Body recovered from river

Police will determine whether body is missing student

October 23, 2001

A body was recovered from the Red Cedar River about 2 p.m. today.

Police expect to identify whether it is the body of missing 18-year-old Eric James Blair later today. Blair, a Delta College student from Bay City, was visiting friends at MSU this weekend, but was reported missing Saturday evening.

“The body was just laying on the bottom of the river near the east end of Kresge” Art Center, MSU police Capt. Dave Trexler said.

Two witnesses reported seeing a body floating in the river near Bogue Street about 3 a.m. Saturday. A four-day search began later that morning.

Blair was last seen near where the body was found.

This is the second body recovered from the Red Cedar River in the past four years. In 1998, 21-year-old Lapeer native Ryan Getz was pulled from the river. He, like Blair, had been visiting friends at MSU. That search lasted four months.
