Weekend Guide

Friday

  • The Campus Center will present the Black Comedy Tour. There will be two shows in Anthony Hall, at 10 p.m. and midnight. Seating is limited and tickets are available at 322 MSU Union. Tickets are free and only two tickets are allowed per student.

  • Ember Swift, the Toronto alternative/folk band will be playing at The Creole Gallery, 1218 Turner St. at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and admission to the event is $13.

  • Re:Boot, featuring their laser light show, will be live at Rick’s American Cafe, 224 Abbott Road, at 10 p.m.

  • Cloud Nine will be playing upstairs at Harpers Restaurant & Brewpub, 131 Albert St. at 10 p.m. Downstairs DJ Lex Loco will be gearing up around the same time. Cover for both is $3.

  • The Ten Pound Fiddle Coffeehouse Series presents the champion Celtic band Danu. The seven member band from Waterford, Ireland,will be playing traditional Irish music at the Erickson Hall Kiva at MSU. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. Ticket prices are $10 for the public, $7 for non-member MSU students and $5 for MSU students who are members of the Lansing Area Folk Society, for more information call 517-337-7744.

  • DJ AJ will be playing at Troppo, 213 Ann St., from 10 p.m. to close. There is no cover for ladies and a $5 cover for the guys.

  • There will be a Ballroom/Swing Dance at the Valley Court Community Center, 201 Hillside Court. The event will feature live music from the Cafagna Trio. Swing lessons begin at 7:30 p.m. and the dance begins at 8 p.m. Admission to the dance is $4 and lessons are an additional $2.

    Saturday

  • The Ten Pound Fiddle Coffeehouse Series will host a Contra & Square Dance featuring live music and a beginner workshop. The beginners workshop will begin at 7:30 p.m. with the actual event starting at 8 p.m. The dance will be at the Bailey Community Center, 300 Bailey St., until 11 p.m. Admission is $7 for non-members and $6 for members. Students with IDs will be able to purchase tickets for $3. For more information call 517-371-2122.

  • The Spragues will be playing upstairs at Harper’s Restaurant & Brewpub, 131 Albert St., at 10 p.m. Downstairs will feature DJ Lex Loco beginning around 10 p.m. Cover is $3 for both events.

  • Insol will be playing live at Rick’s American Cafe, 224 Abbott Road, starting around 10 p.m.

  • Master Hypnotist Thomas Bresadola will host two shows at the International Center. Each showing is open to students with an MSU ID. Showtimes are 9:30 p.m. and 11:15 p.m.

  • Palm and Tarot readers will hold readings at the International Center from 9 p.m. to midnight. Admission is free to students with an MSU ID.

    Sunday

  • The Art Apartment, 210 Abbott Road, Suite 18, will present Her Majesty’s Secret Bee Longings at 1 p.m. Admission is free.

  • Uptown DJs will be playing at the Riviera Cafe & Restaurant, 231 M.A.C. Avenue, beginning around 10 p.m. There is no cover.

  • The MSU Museum, in conjunction with Michigan Quilts Exhibitions will present the quilt lecture “It’s Better With Cheddar.” The event will begin at 2 p.m. and will be held on the main floor of the MSU Museum. Admission to the event is free.

    All Weekend

  • Lansing Civic Players present the Agatha Christie classic, “The Spiders Web. ”It will be showing at the Lansing Catholic Central High School Auditorium, 501 Marshall St. , in Lansing. Showtimes are 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets for the event are $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors. Students may get into the show opening night (Friday) for $5, however that is for tonight only. For more information call (517) 484-9191.

    Cancellations

  • The MSU Museum’s 7th Annual Wine Tasting Benefit scheduled for tonight has been canceled. For more information please call (517) 355-2370.

  • The Mexican Independence Day Festival scheduled for Saturday has been canceled. The event is rescheduled for Sept. 21 at the Lansing Center, 333 E. Michigan Ave. For more information call (517) 372-4700.

  • “Goodnight Desdemona,” which was scheduled to show at the Bath Middle School, 13675 Webster Road, this weekend has been canceled. The event has been rescheduled for the weekend of the 21st of September. For more information please call Bath Middle School Auditorium at (517) 669-9445.
