Do you still have a few of those Skidz outfits or an I.O.U. sweater and want to be in a movie?
This weekend Michiganians will have their chance at roles in a new movie to be shot entirely in Michigan. It centers around the hip-hop scene in Detroit in the mid-90s.
The cool thing about this is that it begins, middles and ends here, said Deedee Ricketts, the extras casting director for the project.
When a movie comes on location, theres architecture, but you can get that on a backlot, Ricketts said.
We come for the feel and the texture of Detroit.
Ricketts said they hope to eventually use around 3,000 native Michiganians with 10 being cast into speaking roles in the film.
She was reluctant to name-drop on possible stars for the film with contract negotiations still underway. Director Curtis Hanson, of 1997s L.A. Confidential fame, is set to helm the picture.
The casting call will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at the Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences, 2985 E Jefferson Ave. in Detroit.
The filmmakers are seeking men and women ages 18 and older to appear as young hip-hop clubgoers, factory workers, truckers and drivers with pre-1995 working class vehicles.
They are also looking for a young girl between 5 and 8 years of age to appear as a young ragamuffin, a poorly clothed and dirty child.
Applicants are asked to have flexible schedules and open availability from October to December of this year.
Ricketts also noted that anyone who wants to apply but cannot make it to the open call can send a photo with their name, age and availability through the end of the year to: Untitled Detroit Project Casting, 3430 E. Jefferson Ave. Box #333, Detroit, MI 48207.
The film is set to begin filming next month, full of Michigan residents.
You can only find Detroit people in Detroit, Ricketts said.
