A 35-year-old woman driving eastbound on Michigan Avenue ran a red light Monday afternoon, causing an accident that closed a portion of the road for more than two hours, Lansing police Sgt. Scott Schuelke said.The woman, who was not wearing a safety belt, was thrown from the vehicle when her Geo Metro struck a GMC Jimmy going through the intersection on North Homer Street. She was in stable condition at Lansings Sparrow Hospital as of Monday afternoon.The other driver, Lansing Community College philosophy junior Todd Weber, was not injured. Weber was wearing a safety belt. His dog, Turtle, was shaken, but not injured. Its just a shame that it had to happen, he said. I was doing everything I could to keep from hitting those other people. They were just innocent bystanders.I A cellular phone valued at $500 was taken from a study lounge at Butterfield Hall, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said. A 19-year-old female left the phone unattended in the lounge between 9 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. Monday. When she returned to the lounge, the phone was gone. No other items had been taken. Police have no suspects.
