Police briefs 09/04/01

l A white 1996 Buick valued at $5,000 was stolen from Lot 89, the commuter lot, between 11 p.m. Thursday and 3:30 p.m. Saturday, said MSU Sgt. Keith McDaniel. The vehicle’s owner, a female student, said the car was locked and she had the keys. There are no suspects.l MSU police apprehended an 18-year-old nonstudent and a juvenile Monday morning as they were trying to steal bicycles near University Village, McDaniel said. The suspects also were cited for possession of burglary tools, possession of heroin, possession of crack and violating a weapons ordinance by carrying a knife and curfew violation. One of the suspects had an existing warrant from another law agency. At least two other stolen bicycles were recovered when the suspects’ residences were searched.l An insulin pump valued at $5,000 was taken from a diabetic student Saturday afternoon, McDaniel said. The female student said she sat down on the lawn near Bessey Hall about 12:30 p.m. and placed her belongings next to her. When she reached for the pump about 10 minutes later, she realized it had been taken. There are no suspects.l Unidentified suspects tried to remove the front of an automated teller machine in Brody Hall, McDaniel said. No money was removed from the machine, but damages were estimated at $50.l A vehicle parked in Ramp 2 by the Computer Center was broken into Saturday, McDaniel said. The vehicle’s owner, a male MSU employee, returned to see the vehicle’s window had been punched out and more than $1,200 in electronic items taken between 11:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m., police said. There are no suspects.
