Hockey ticket goof-up angers students

A rude awakening greeted several Spartan hockey fans Monday morning when their student season tickets weren’t available as scheduled in the Athletic Ticket Office in Jenison Field House.

The tickets were supposed to be available at 8 a.m. for students in the top-level priority group. Some students woke up early in order to select their split-season package and obtain seating assignments on a first-come, first-served basis.

But when students showed up, there were no tickets.

Chris Besanceney, the ticket office manager, said the delay is the result of spotty airline traffic across the nation after last week’s terrorist attack. He said all pickup times are being pushed back to next week.

“We just didn’t get our stock in time,” Besanceney said. “(The pickup) was postponed late on Friday, but apparently the message didn’t get out to everyone. We feel bad about it, and we’re not too happy about it either.”

New pickup times will be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the following dates

  • Priority Group 1: Sept. 24

  • Priority Group 2: Sept. 25

  • Priority Group 3: Sept. 26

  • Priority Group 4: Sept. 27

Also, because of high demand, a lottery was conducted to allocate student season tickets this year. Results are posted in the Athletic Ticket Office.

Students shut out by the lottery can still get season tickets through the Slapshots student cheering section. Slapshots co-director Megan Murphy said about 20 Slapshots memberships, which include tickets to every home game and other perks, are still available for $140.
