Miles teaches driving safety

“Miles,” the Michigan State Police road safety mascot, made an appearence on Tuesday morning, 10 a.m., at Celebration Cinema in Lansing. He presented a video educating young and old about traffic safety.

LANSING - While children in the front row of a dark movie theater laughed and applauded, Miles, a yellow animated road stripe, waved back as four short commercials about driving safety starring him played.

It was his premiere.

Miles was introduced Tuesday at Celebration Cinema, 200 E. Edgewood Blvd., as part of a new campaign by the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning, or OHSP, to educate adults and children about merging near semi-trucks, blind spots, speeding, and safety belt safety.

Morgan Hurst, a first-grader at Moores Park Elementary School, 316 Moores River Drive in Lansing, enjoyed learning driving safety tips from Miles.
