In Tupelo County, football reigns supreme and the annual Easter Egg Hunt takes on Super Bowl proportions.

To visit this fictional place, one may purchase tickets to “Father, Son and Holy Coach,” a one-man show to be performed at the Wharton Center’s Pasant Theatre this weekend.

The show, performed and written by actor and screen writer John Posey, mixes comedy with the emotion of father-son conflicts.

“It’s the very universal story of fathers and sons,” Posey said. “We are all from different generations that perceive success and failure in life differently.

“A moment of glory may look successful to a kid, but not to a parent.”

Posey described the show as a character-driven comedy, with middle American appeal.

“This vehicle belongs on college markets,” he said. “It deals with collegiate and high school football, and in middle America - that’s huge.”

Joanna Spencer, associate director at the Road Company, a theatrical booking agency, has seen the show and said the tone of it is similar to “The Wonder Years.”

“It’s comedy, but nostalgia too, with a bitter-sweet feeling of memory,” she said.

Posey plays 20 characters in the show, from a child to the dog.

“There are some really fun, finely drawn characters,” Spencer said. “The variety of character really comes to life.”

Show times are 7:30 p.m., Thursday, 8p.m. Friday, 2p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, and 3 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets, priced at $30, can be purchased by calling 432-2000 or 1-800-WHARTON.
