Those who visit Unrelated Segments, an exhibit at the Kresge Art Center, are bound to be captured by something, said MSU art graduate student Harry Williams, whose work is among those being exhibited.
The artwork on display ranges from stone carvings and abstract paintings to activated machines.
April Liu, a sculptor for the past three years, said since most exhibits at Kresge show work done by undergraduate art students, Unrelated Segments may be the only show this year on campus to feature graduate artwork.
Williams, who has been involved in painting and mixed-media artwork for the past four years, said this is the first time his work has been displayed with such an assortment of artistic styles.
Anytime Ive shown work, its been with painters, and this is the first time its been such a wide array of different types of work, he said. Usually its been very narrow, and this just seems to be all-encompassing of different ways of expressing things.
The artists all graduated from a wide variety of universities and colleges across the world, including schools in India, South Korea, California, Arizona and Michigan.
We are unrelated segments, from different backgrounds brought together in this show, said Greg Wade, a studio art graduate student.
Theres a little bit for everybody there. Were MSU students too; come see what were doing.
The gallery is showing until Monday. A reception for the artists will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Gallery 114 at the Kresge Art Center. Refreshments will be served.
