Police briefs 11/08/00

Police have no suspects in an apparent arson in Butterfield Hall on Monday night, MSU police Detective Tony Willis said. The message board on the door of a 19-year-old male student’s third-floor room was set on fire, charring a portion of the door and the carpet on the floor when the burning board fell, he said.Police said it appears the person who set the board on fire also put the flames out with water. The resident of the room told police he has no idea who would want to start the fire, Willis said.Damages to the door and carpet are estimated at $570. An investigation is underway.

  • A worker in the Office of Judicial Affairs in Student Services reported money stolen from a box on the front counter of the office between Saturday and Monday, Willis said. The box was used to store money from candy sales. Its contents of $70 were taken. The door to the office had been locked and there were no signs of forced entry, Willis said.An investigation is underway.SARA LUNEBURG
