Police briefs 11/06/00

A worker in the Biochemistry Building reported a piece of machinery smoldering at 11:15 a.m. Friday, MSU police Lt. Kelly Beck said.The worker did not know how the fire started. Styrofoam casing around the motor was damaged in the incident, but it is unknown if the actual motor was damaged, she said.Damage is estimated at up to $7,000.

  • Two vehicles were broken into on campus between 4:10 p.m. and 4:55 p.m. Friday, Beck said.Both vehicles, a 1999 Chevy Prizm and a 1996 Ford Probe, had been parked on Demonstration Hall Road at the time of the thefts.The doors to the Prizm had been left unlocked. Two backpacks had been stolen from the vehicle with two purses, two sets of keys, checkbooks, ATM cards, cash, textbooks and binders inside. The second car had been locked. The passenger side door lock had been punched in and a purse, watch and bracelet were stolen. Items from the second car were valued at $800. Damage to that car is estimated at $200.
