    John McPhail did not become a professional counselor to help people with sex addictions.But today he treats up to four sex addicts a week and the numbers seem to be growing."People don't take pornography addictions very seriously but it is devastating on relationships and careers" said the Lansing counselor who also is an MSU adjunct psychology professor.While there is debate about whether porn can be addictive many say it impacts society relationships jobs and body images.

    For seven months Lansing teachers were on the verge of striking.Years of budget cuts had put the school district in uncertain waters 151 leading to slashed benefits for teachers the threat of further program cuts and other internal problems.In the middle of all that were MSU College of Education students doing required class fieldwork and internships in Lansing classrooms."It's their best first glance at a school district to really assess if it's a place to start their profession" said Jerry Swartz president of the Lansing Schools Education Association.After experiencing the Lansing situation firsthand some MSU education majors say they didn't feel prepared to handle potential strikes. "I wouldn't know whether I'd want to join in on that or what my options are" said Erin Chamberlain an elementary education senior.

"We went there for the sole purpose of worshiping God obeying God repenting for our sins and trying to reestablish a connection with God."Regardless of your race regardless of your social status regardless of what country you are from you are all same in front of God.

    Lauron Kehrer keeps a bin inside her Williams Hall room that contains aluminum cans and paper to be recycled.But she said she would recycle more if MSU had an extensive recycling program on campus.Come February the music performance junior may see the beginnings of one.MSU students University Housing and the Office of Recycling and Waste Management is in the process of creating a pilot recycling program in four residence halls.The purpose is to collect data and estimate how much students would recycle if a permanent campuswide program was in place said Corrinne Thomas policy chairwoman for the student environmental group Eco.One floor in each hall 151 Holmes Hubbard Shaw and Williams 151 will be chosen to participate in the program.

    The Lansing Board of Education decided in a 5-4 vote on Sept. 21 to keep a 1.67 cumulative grade point average as the standard all student athletes must maintain to participate in school sports but requiring a 1.67 grade average as the standard isn't going to prepare students for the future.Most universities and colleges will not accept a GPA of 1.67.

    By Tara ThoelFor The State NewsFossils from birds mammals insects and reptiles were spread out over several tables at the MSU Museum on Sunday as a way for people to learn about different types of species.People could even bring in fossils of their own to be identified."We were trying to find something to bring in but we couldn't find anything" said Roxanne Dewyer a premedicine and anthropology sophomore.Students families and others looked at the different fossils and classified seashells and viewed other exhibits at the museum to commemorate naturalist Charles Darwin's 197th birthday."I am really into evolution and found out there was going to be new exhibits and was really excited" Dewyer said.Lansing's Potter Park Zoo brought live animals and nine units and departments at MSU were represented by specialists in the fields.
