Well, it looks like I struggled with last week’s picks as Greg Camarillo had four catches and Willis McGahee busted out from his slump. Oh well, I went 1-1, so I’m back at it again.

Weekend good to Spartans

It was a great weekend to be a Spartans sports fan.

Every single MSU team won this weekend.

The football team found a way to beat Indiana to get its first conference win. It was by no means pretty, but it was great to see the Spartans close out a game and get the win.

Students were reminded that basketball season is right around the corner as many participated in the Izzone campout on Saturday. Spartans pride was clear as the die-hard fans packed into Munn field and camped out for 24 straight hours.
The Olympic sports found a way to get it done this weekend too.

The volleyball team played at Breslin Center in front of a crowd of more than 5,000 fans on Saturday night. They were able to beat Ohio State on Friday and No. 21 Michigan on Saturday.

The field hockey team also won two games this weekend as it went on the road and beat No. 16 Ohio State and then come back home to take down No. 20 California.

The women’s soccer team followed the winning trend, handing Minnesota its first loss of the season on Friday and then smoking Iowa on Sunday afternoon.

And lets not forget about the men’s soccer team. Head coach Joe Baum’s squad squeaked out a 4-3 win at Penn State on Sunday in what Baum called “one of the craziest games he’s ever been a part of.”

Although the football team’s success is getting the most attention, MSU’s smaller sports are racking up the wins too. It’s definitely time to keep your eyes open for the other teams wearing the Green and White around campus this fall.
