Women's hoops on the recruiting trail

MSU women’s basketball associate head coach Shane Clipfell spent much of his summer on the road recruiting, where he said the staff was received “very well.”

“The postseason stuff definitely gets you in the door a lot quicker,” Clipfell said at Monday’s Media Day. “You’re certainly more recognizable, as well as our men going to the Final Four, it just puts our university out there where it should be at the front and of course football had a great season last year, too, so that always helped us get in the door and get our name a little more public.”

Also increasing the team’s visibility is the fact that all but one of the team’s games from December forward will be broadcast in some form, whether on tradition television or streamed on the Big Ten Network’s Web site.

“That’s very helpful and it’s something we try to market a lot to our recruits as we’re talking to them,” Clipfell said. “We’ve also made a commitment to try to stay regional as much as we can because we think there’s plenty of talent here in our backyard and within each state that touches us and that’s a good thing to sell to the parents. Even though they might be four to five hours away, they’re not going to be able to drive to every game, but they’ll have access to watch their kids play on a regular basis and that’s a nice selling point.”
