After making strides for the past few weeks, the MSU gymnastics team stumbled Friday when it fell to in-state rival Michigan, 196.025-192.700 at Ann Arbor.
Performances from sophomores Taira Neal and Dani Levy were not enough to bolster the Spartans to victory, as the team fell back into their old ways, struggling on the balance beam with a score of 46.875 on the event.
Neal had tied her personal best score on vault with a 9.25, and Levy placed second on the floor routine with a score of 9.875. Levy also had an all-around score of 38.325, which placed her in fourth behind three Wolverine gymnasts.
Senior Jackie Berg was the only other Spartan to place, notching a third place score on uneven parallel bars with a mark of 9.800.
The meet was the final of the regular season for the Spartans, who will head to Iowa City, Iowa on Saturday to compete in the Big Ten Championships.
