The MSU men’s and women’s cross country teams will travel to the University of Illinois for the 2011 Big Ten Cross Country Championships to kick off the championship season on Sunday, Oct. 30.
The women will be running for their second consecutive conference title, finishing last year’s meet with the highest winning score in Big Ten history (74 points).
The team recently was ranked fifteenth by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, also giving them the highest ranking among Great Lakes Region standings and in-conference teams.
The men’s team is headed into the meet ranked sixth in the Great Lakes Region by the USTFCCCA.
They have failed to bring home a Big Ten Conference title since 1971 and an individual title since Gerald Young’s 1960 first-place finish.
The men’s race will kick off at 11:45 a.m., with the women following at 12:45 p.m. Both races will be available for viewing on at 12 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11 on the Big Ten Network.
