MSU is leading in the 17th annual MSU-PSU Blood Challenge by about 164 units of blood, according to an e-mail from the Red Cross.
As of Monday, MSU participants have donated about 611 units since the competition began Nov. 1. Penn State has donated about 447.
Penn State has won the challenge for the past four years. MSU has won the challenge five times since it first began more than a decade ago.
On the first day of the challenge, MSU donated more than 100 units. As of Monday, the challenge has raised more than 1,000 units of blood for the American Red Cross.
The challenge will end Nov. 18. Campus organizations will sponsor blood drives at different locations throughout campus. Today, blood drives will be going on in Holden and Gilchrist halls from noon to 5:45 p.m.
