MSU Alum to help produce Oscars

By Heather Guenther (Last updated: 10/28/09 9:34pm)

An MSU alumnus is slated to coproduce the 82nd Academy Awards.

Bill Mechanic, who graduated from MSU in 1973 with a bachelor’s degree in English, will produce the annual awards show with director Adam Shankman. It will be both Mechanic’s and Shankman’s first time being involved in the Oscars.

Mechanic is chairman and CEO of California-based Pandemonium Films, which produced the animated thriller “Coraline.” Prior to joining Pandemonium Films, Mechanic served as the chairman and CEO of 20th Century Fox.

Under Mechanic’s supervision, 20th Century Fox released award-winning movies “Titanic” and “Cast Away.”

The 82nd Academy Awards are scheduled for March 7, 2010.
