You are full of hot air, Granholm. You Promised a scholarship, then you Promised you would veto the elimination of the scholarship, now your Promising to encourage the Legislature? Get real. You are not honorable.

A State Senate unwilling to compromise is not honorable. The branches of government have to work together to improve the lives of their constituents, which requires compromise. In my opinion, Mike Bishop broke Michigan’s Promise.

Well kiddies, the next time the state proposes a tax increase, convince your parents not to run away screaming. And since most MSU student’s families make well over 100K/year, your parents were the ones screaming the loudest. You don’t get something for nothing.

We fought so hard. Colleges coming together, students calling their representatives, writing letters. And then it gets killed. Yet people wounder why people are leaving the state.

I attend a little college called Lake Superior State University, and my parents make nothing a year. I made 4500 last year and close to 6000 this coming up year. This is not enough to come close to paying for colleges. Although I have excellent credit, I have no ‘permanent’ address and my credit is ‘new’ and I cannot get private loans. I rely on things like the MI Promise and Educational Opportunity grants. I also rely heavily on Work Study, state and federal. This is hurting my pockets, now and after I graduate. If you guys want us to stay in MI, give me a reason. If no one will help me get a leg up to better myself and promote MI through my field of work, how can you expect me to keep my ‘loyalty’ to this state? Jobs are hard enough to come by, let alone stay here after graduating to pay off loans.
My parents do not and cannot help me pay for college. I am a registered voter and I am more financially responsible than my parents. People who disrespect all college kids without knowing their situation make me angry. We are over 18, some of us pay for it on our own, and we vote. Therefore, we are not ‘kiddies’ and our parents aren’t the ones who should have to shoulder our school.
Oh, and since you believe you don’t get something for nothing, remember that next time someone does anything for you requiring a degree. Chances are that if they live in Michigan, their services to you are for close to nothing for them. I have professors here that get paid less than 1/3 of the national average for people with a PHD. They struggle to be middle class, when their degree should put them above middle class. Don’t cheapen our education just because you think people don’t want to pay taxes. My poor parents would gladly do that if I got that extra little bit of money.
Before typing, make sure you know what you are talking about.
