While there is still a lot to be decided in Washington, D.C., the U.S. could be on the verge of appointing its first Hispanic justice to the Supreme Court. President Barack Obama nominated New York appellate Judge Sonia Sotomayor to replace outgoing Justice David Souter, which could finally bring change to a court that sorely lacks diversity.

“Almost all of her cases show extensive research and support for her rulings”, really? Then why is she overturned 60% of the time

Taters-
You are right that 3 of the 5 Sotomayor’s cases the Supreme Court has heard were overturned, but if that makes her unqualified than every Appellate Court judge is unqualified. The Supreme Court overturns the lower court at a 75% clip

Not to mention that Sotomayor has authored around 105 opinions which would put her reversal rate at under 3%. I really have a hard time believing that smart people really buy into the whole 60% thing.

Taters-
Also, are you waiting or are you not waiting? Your choice of punctuation makes it unclear.

By the way, using your silly argument, Alito had a 100% reversal rate when nominated.

She will be confirmed.
But perhaps Republicans will follow the example of Obama and his (D) colleagues in their treatment of Roberts and Alito. Strong opposition. Make stuff up. Stretch any statement or association of the nominee to a ridiculous extent in an attempt to destroy her character. Then vote against.
The (D)‘s have trashed the tradition of respecting nominees of the other party. Their treatment of one of Bush’s judicial nominees, Miguel Estrada, illustrates that there will likely be no political penalty to pay for unprincipled criticism of an Hispanic. The (D)‘s paid no penalty for trashing, and ultimately blocking him.
