SN Style: Cute roomies complement one another

October 9, 2008

McCluskey

Interior design seniors and roommates Danni Olson and Mo McCluskey use their keen eye for interior decorating as an influence on their style.

Olson and McCluskey based this year’s wardrobe as a reflection of the rooms in their home: classic, eclectic and elegant.

The State News: How would you describe your style?
Danni Olson: I’m pretty clean-cut. Elegant, usually Americana-type clothing, just very simple and efficient.
Mo McCluskey: I’m probably more eclectic.

SN: On an average school day, do you plan ahead what you’re going to wear?
DO: I try to keep it more casual during the day, but still maintain the sleek look and not too messy. No sweats, no sweatshirts, things like that.
Our major is all about style, so we try to match what our styles emanate in our decor and our clothing.
MC: I try to incorporate some of my style into what I wear to class, but I don’t spend too much time trying to do it.

SN: Is there a big transition in your clothing seasonally?
DO: In the spring, I try to make it very floral with pastel colors and more polos and springy-type clothes. But in the winter, I wear darker fibers.
MC: Fall and winter are more about texture, whereas the summer months are about flowy dresses and fabrics.

SN: From high school to college, did you change your style?
DO: I never really did the Abercrombie & Fitch or American Eagle (Outfitters) thing in high school. I kept it pretty basic the whole time. I just made the accessories differ. I do feel like I have grown up since high school, but not in a huge way.
MC: I think I definitely have gotten more into fashion. I’m not ashamed of what I wore in high school, but it was definitely a preppier, more classic look.

SN: What stands out the most when people see you?
DO: I’d like to think I’m always put together. I always have a finished, polished look.
MC: Maybe it looks like I didn’t just roll out of bed and a little bit of thought was put into what I was wearing for the day.

SN: Do you have a favorite piece of clothing?
DO: I like to wear my yellow trench coat a lot.
MC: I got a bag in Florence this summer that I use for everything: class, going to the grocery store, whatever.
