MSU Pagan group to hold forum tonight

By Keiara Tenant (Last updated: 10/29/08 9:26pm)

Friday is Halloween, but for followers of Paganism, the day marks the Pagan new year — Samhain.

To spread awareness of the holiday, Green Spiral, MSU’s Pagan student organization, will hold an open discussion forum at its general meeting at 7:30 p.m. today in the Tower Room of the Union.

Jason Mankey, a member of the Lansing Pagan organization and adviser to Green Spiral, will speak about the Christian and Pagan traditions that make up Halloween. There will also be discussion about how modern-day Pagans celebrate Samhain.

Gary Cox, vice president and treasurer of Green Spiral, said the event can be a great opportunity to learn the facts about Pagans.

“It’s not just a bunch of teenagers wearing black clothes and being emo,” Cox said. “It’s a deeply spiritual thing.”

Come on now. Everyone knows that all the cool Pagans worship Thor and Odin.
