Comments: How politically savvy are you?

GOTV. “Get Out the Vote.” This should be familiar to members of our generation. In 2004 and 2006, campaigns such as “Vote Or Die” sought to get us off of our Xboxes and Facebook.com and into our local polling precinct. Every election cycle, celebrities and political elites get together to encourage us Generation Yers to participate in our democracy.

8 points for me.

Did the writer consider that not all 18-29 y/os are in favor of a social progressive movement???

I voted on all of the listed ballots, but according to him I think I voted wrong on all of them…

I too scored an 11, make my check payable to Milton,

I would like to know how many points can we deduct from Tom Choske for this interesting turn:

“Many may have an apathetic view of government and lament how corrupt politicians are. This is always crystallized for me by the “George Bush is stupid” Democrats — people who know nothing except the mantra that President Bush is stupid, and think they should vote for whoever has a “D” next to their name.”

	Followed later by:

“Do we re-elect the same party hacks who have ridden roughshod over our nation for the past decade, or do we take our country back?”

So Tom hates the typical mantra’s and calls them uniformed, but uses the latest greatest (D) mantra to sum up his point?

	I say –5 for you.

I’m not sure Tom was only asking Democrats to “participate” in the process more deeply. I think his point was that EVERYONE should become more educated about the candidates and the political process, Democrat and Republican alike. I’m a Democrat, but I can think of a few “party hacks who have ridden roughshod over our nation for the past decade” on the “D” side: Ted Kennedy, Hillary Clinton, et al. However, there are still more on the Republican side in my opinion.

In order for the Democrat Party to win seats, they need the uneducated vote. That has been their focus for many years. That is why they have a dependable welfare-receiving voting bloc and the votes of America’s inner cities. Common politics. If everyone educated themselves, they would realize that liberalism is a selfish joke. So if I were the DNC, I would make sure that our voters are as stupid as possible, and it seems to be already working.

Dan,

In order for the Republican Party to win seats, they need the born-again Southern Baptist vote. They pander to the ridiculous ideology of a group of people who believe Jesus is coming in the next few years and that Noah sailed the ocean blue with a bunch of animals on board. They draw up ridiculous amendments like the Marriage Protection Act in order to keep their constituents happy, when they know it has no chance in hell of going through Congress.

OMFG i can’t believe it, hypocrisy on both sides!

“If young people are truly being “mobilized,” then why do corrupt politicians keep getting re-elected? Why do campaigns geared toward our generation fizzle out?”

Because many young people are so eager to contribute that they pick a candidate and go full tilt, not realizing that neither of them are truly what’s best for the country. Do people really think that Obama, Hillary, and McCain are the three most qualified people in the entire country to be president? A lot of college students think that 64 teams deserve to compete for the college basketball championship, but the freakin presidency should see a bracket of roughly 8?

Maybe the younger generation should work on revising the process to get more qualified people on the ballot – regardless of their wealth, class, race, or gender. Maybe work on getting some smart, middle-class, working people into office. But of course, THAT would take some serious work.
