Hours before the NCAA mens basketball season kicks off, there are still preseason accolades being dished out.
The latest list to size up the best players in the nation is the John R. Wooden Award’s preseason top 50 list, naming the players expected to make a splash in college hoops this season.
MSU junior guard Keith Appling is the lone Spartan and one of nine Big Ten players to make the preseason cut.
Appling averaged 11.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 3.9 assists and was a All-Big Ten third team honoree last season.
Last season, the John R. Wooden Award placed former MSU forward Draymond Green on their Wooden All-American Team for the postseason.
Appling is joined by fellow Big Ten players Trey Burke (Michigan), Aaron Craft (Ohio State), Tim Frazier (Penn State), Tim Hardaway Jr. (Michigan), Brandon Paul (Illinois), Deshaun Thomas (Ohio State), Christian Watford (Indiana), and Cody Zeller (Indiana).
Freshman, transfers and medical redshirts are ineligible to be listed.
