ELPD and MSUPD report crime from homecoming weekend

MSU Police reported a wider variety of game day-related crimes from homecoming weekend, according to Capt. Doug Monette.

Here’s what Monette reported:

  • Six minor-in-possession violations
  • Two open container violations
  • One incident of public urination
  • One incident in which an individual failed to obey a police officer
  • One instance in which somebody used an unauthorized source amplified sound
  • One weapons violation involving a knife

Compared to prior gamedays, Monette said MSUPD reported zero incidents involving illegal ticket scalping or selling merchandise without a license.

For comparison, here are the crime stats from the week MSU football hosted Western Michigan University, per Monette:

  • One citation for illegally selling t-shirts
  • Nine minor-in-possessions
  • Six public urinations
  • Four open alcohol violations

East Lansing Case and Arrest Weekly Report

Each week, East Lansing Police releases a weekly log of crimes and violations that were reported to the department. Below are some of the crimes reported to ELPD from homecoming weekend:

  • Five arrests for driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor
  • Four instances of disorderly conduct
  • Three reports of criminal sexual conduct, each of the fourth degree
  • One minor-in-possesion violation
  • One medically-assisted police dispatch
  • One report of arson

For comparison, here are the stats collected from the week of the Western Michigan game:

  • Three arrests for disorderly conduct
  • Two arrests for minor-in-possession
  • Two arrest operating under the influence of intoxicating liquor 
  • One arrest for assault and battery

“We had a really busy weekend,” Deputy Chief of Police Steve Gonzalez said. “It was not unexpected. Homecoming weekend coupled with the nice weather we had, we knew going into it it was going to be really busy.”
