A pre-motion conference has been scheduled for the lawsuit against MSU by the organizer of Richard Spencer's collegiate speaking tour. The pre-motion conference has been scheduled for Nov. 3, 2017 at 10 a.m. in the Grand Rapids federal building.

The organizer of the collegiate speaking tour, Cameron Padgett, is suing MSU for denying his request to rent a room on campus for Spencer, president of the National Policy Institute, or NPI, to speak about so-called alt-right philosophy at MSU.

Padgett is seeking a court order that requires MSU to permit him to rent a room on campus for Spencer and is seeking damages in excess of $75,000 according to a press release from Bristow Law, PLLC.

As stated in the order setting the pre-motion conference, a briefing schedule will be discussed during the conference.

The case is being overseen by U.S. District Judge Janet T. Neff. The plaintiff is listed as Padgett and the MSU defendants are listed as the Board of Trustees and President Lou Anna K. Simon. The case was originally filed Sept. 3.
