Nearly eight months after shuttering its main location at the corner of Grand River Avenue and Abbot Road indefinitely, Conrad’s Grill is set to open in the former GoombaS Pizza location, aiming to bring back the beloved late-night salvation by the time classes begin.

Joe Conrad, owner of Conrad’s Grill, confirmed the new location Wednesday afternoon after signage was placed on the building recently.

“We got the leased signed in the middle of July and we’re hoping to be open by the first day of school,” Conrad said. “It’s going to be really close.”

With renovations continuing and a quickly approaching deadline for opening, Conrad said the new location may have to open with temporary hours until it’s complete.

The new location will be approximately a third of a mile up Grand River Avenue from the previous location. When GoombaS closed its doors in May and the site opened up, Conrad said they pursued it quickly.

“It’s a little different from our old location because it’s not so close to the bars, but there is a lot more housing that is right around it,” Conrad said. “We think that will offset some of the late night business we got by the bars.”

The former main location was heavily trafficked by bar patrons and Conrad hopes to still draw in many of them on their treks home.

“The people that really like Conrad’s will make it there, it’s not too much farther,” Conrad said. “I think our customers will make it down to us and what we’re hoping is, we’ll avoid a lot of people that came in after the bars that weren’t customers (and didn't order food).”

The closing of the main location was heavily lamented by students, but now the months-long wait for a downtown Conrad's location is over.

“We just look forward to being back open in the downtown area as soon as possible,” Conrad said.
