After a four-game sweep of Abilene Christian to begin the season, the MSU baseball team is off to a strong start, and so is senior infielder Dan Durkin.

Durkin, a 5-foot-10 senior from Tinley Park, Ill., led the Spartans last week as he batted .500 and was named the Big Ten Conference Baseball Player of the Week on Monday.

The senior infielder registered nine hits, 11 RBIs and one home run in the four-game series. Durkin, who secured his first career Player of the Week award, tallied four extra-base hits on the weekend.

MSU will now go on the road again to face UNC Greensboro in a three-game series beginning on Friday. The Spartans will not play at home until March 22 when they take on Central Michigan University.
