MSU freshman forward Nick Ward was honored as the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, according to a Dec. 5  press release.

Ward, a 6-foot-8 native of Gahanna, Ohio, averaged 17.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and two blocks per game in MSU's games against then-No. 5 Duke and Oral Roberts University last week, including an 11-point performance against the Blue Devils and a career-high 24 points against ORU for his first career double-double.

Ward garnered the honors after shooting 72.2 percent from the floor, converting 8-of-11 field goal attempts. Ward's 11 points against Duke came as a result of shooting 5-for-7 from the field, accompanied by three rebounds.

In addition to Ward's double-double against the Golden Eagles, he also finished the game with three blocks and two steals.

This is Ward's first-ever Freshman of the Week honor and he is the second Spartan to be given the award this season after forward Miles Bridges was given it for the week of Nov. 14 and again for the week of Nov. 28.
